Temporary workers (employed by "interim" agencies) who are entitled to a bonus will receive a form from the Social Fund for Temporary Workers in December. For quick payment of your end-of-year bonus, submit your form to your nearest ABVV office or hand it in to your delegate! As an ABVV member, you will also be entitled to a union bonus.

1. When will you receive your end-of-year bonus?

The end-of-year bonus, known as the "thirteenth month", is paid to you from December provided that you have worked for at least 65 days or 494 hours (or 78 days if you work 6 days a week) between 1 July of the previous year and 30 June of the current year (=reference period).

Please note: If you have only worked 60 days or 456 hours as a temporary worker, but have been taken on as a permanent worker at the company where you were employed immediately before as a temporary worker, you are also entitled to an end-of-year bonus - However, you have to prove this to the Social Fund.

2. Which days count towards the end-of-year bonus?

The total number of days worked and a series of days of absence, namely:

  • sick days for which a guaranteed salary is paid;
  • absence following an accident at work;
  • days of temporary unemployment
    • Please note: temporary unemployment due to force majeure does not apply. And a maximum of 5 days of economic unemployment is automatically taken into account.
  • paid public holidays.

Please note: Benefits as a temporary student ("jobstudent") are not taken into account.

3. How much is the end-of-year bonus?

The gross end-of-year bonus is equal to 8.33% of the gross salary you earned as a temporary worker during the reference period. From this gross premium, 13.07% ONSS contribution and 23.22% withholding tax must be deducted. The net premium is equal to approximately 63% of the gross premium. The exact way in which the premium is calculated is shown on the premium document you receive.

4. How do I get my end-of-year bonus?

If you meet the criteria, you will automatically receive a form from the Social Fund for Temporary Workers from December onwards. Take this signed document to an ABVV office or contact your union delegate. This means you can be sure of rapid payment. People who return their form to the Fund will not be paid until January.

5. When are you entitled to a union bonus?

If you are affiliated to the union AND if you are entitled to the end-of-year bonus, you are also entitled to a union bonus of 120 euros. Your union bonus is paid at the same time as your end-of-year bonus. However, to qualify, you must send your fund form to the ABVV.

More information? Temporary workers can also depend on the ABVV. Our regional branches and delegates are there for you. Temporary workers are entitled to be treated as workers in their own right. But to do this, you need to know your rights.
